We’ll be back at the Grant County Fairgrounds in John Day, in the center of some top-choice paved and GS routes!  Maps will be available at the Information Booth for self-guided routes and we’ll have a good mix of our popular guided rides, both paved and GS.

 

We have a reputation for awesome rally food from Juniper Cookhouse. These fine folks will be cooking up a pulled pork dinner for Friday and a Tri-tip dinner for Saturday. Because of logistics, we are not able to accommodate special diets for Fri & Sat dinners.

Friday & Saturday dinners are capped at #400 and are included with Early and Regular registrations. Sign up early!

Thursday, June 19th

 4:00-5:00        Seminar: “Ride Our Western History” Talk by Steve Miller in the Sales Barn                
 
7:00-?             Wine Tasting Social hosted by Chris & Debbie Wallace. At site # 8 in the RV park. 
Bring a bottle of wine, a glass, and snacks to share at the wine-tasting table.

Rally T-shirts are available in Crew Neck Long Sleeve, Crew Neck Short Sleeve, and Scoop Neck Short Sleeve versions. The fabric has a soft cotton feel in a light-weight, quick-dry fabric perfect for travel. Long sleeved shirts are $30 in advance and $36 at the rally. Short sleeved shirts are $25 in advance and $30 at the rally.

      

A word about our Rally T-shirt artwork: We chose to use two motorcycles to reflect the camaraderie of BMWRO, one is a single rider and the other is a two-up couple. We’ve included the image of Chief Joseph to represent our ties to the region and the history of the rally.

Rally Hats are cotton unstructured baseball-cap style with our 2025 CJR Logo embroidered on the front. Caps have an adjustable strap at the back and are available in Washed Blue and Washed Gray colors.  Rally hats are $20 in advance and $24 at the rally .
                                                         
Rally Cups are 16 oz insulated double wall stainless steel.  Perfect for keeping cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot!  Help cut down on our use of disposable cups. Rally Cups are $16.

Guided Ride Descriptions  (sign up in advance for these Guided Rides at the Information Booth)
Friday, June 20th:
Guided Ride. Route TBD led by Jeff Smith.
Paved route. Riders meet with Jeff in the Main parking lot at 8:45am. Start with a full tank and bring water bottle. 
Guided Ride to McEwen Depot & Tour of Railyard led by Paul Tefft Paved route. Riders meet with Paul in the Keerins parking lot at 8:45am. This is an informative and interesting precursor to the SVRR Excursion on Saturday.  After the tour, the group will ride to Sumpter for lunch before returning to John Day.  Start with a full tank and bring water bottle & snacks56 miles/~1 hour each way. 
GS Guided Ride. Route TBD led by Chuck Mileur. . Riders meet with Chuck in the Keerins parking lot at 9:15am. Start with a full tank and bring water bottle.
GS Guided Ride. Route TBD led by Kyle Emerson.   Riders meet with Kyle in the Main parking lot at 9:15am.  Start with a full tank and bring water bottle.

Guided Ride to Baker City led by Alice LeBarron. Paved routeRiders meet with Alice in the Keerins parking lot at 9:45 am
Round trip to Baker City and back to John Day sweeping through the Blue Mountains and following the curves along the Powder River. We’ll stop for lunch in Baker City and return to the fairgrounds in time for ice cream!  Moderate pace. Start with a full gas tank; bring your water bottle. ~4 hr/160 miles round trip.
Guided Ride to Magone Lake and Hike led by Carol Dallas. Paved route. Riders meet with Carol in Main Parking lot at 10:45 am.  
We’ll ride out to Magone Lake (50 miles round-trip), where we’ll hike the 1.7 mile flat trail around the lake.When we return to our bikes, we’ll have time for a picnic lunch before riding back to the fairgrounds. Start with full gas tank. Bring a sack lunch, water bottle, & camp chair. Consider bringing walking shoes. 

Saturday, June 21st:

Guided Ride Around the Strawberries led by Dave Chmielowiec.  Paved route. Riders meet with Dave at 12:15pm in the Main Parking lot.  
Heading south on Hwy 395, we’ll turn onto Canyon Creek Road and follow a series of paved roads to circle around the Strawberry Mountains, through Logan Prairie and joining Hwy 26 at Prairie City, returning to the fairgrounds in time for ice cream!  Approx 87 miles. Start with a full gas tank. Bring water bottle.

             

 

       

Historic Sumpter Valley Railroad Excursion    Saturday June 21st

The McEwen Depot and Museum is about 60 miles east of John Day on Oregon Highway 7.  Ride your own ride or drive from the fairgrounds to the McEwen Depot.  It’s about an hour ride 1-way.  Watch for the BMW Roundel marking your turn from Hwy 7 to the depot.  Pick up maps and directions from the Information Booth on Thursday or Friday morning.  The train departs from the McEwen depot at 10:00 AM, so you should plan to arrive at the depot by 9:30 am to meet with Paul Tefft before the train ride. The train takes you to the Sumpter terminal where you can tour the historic gold mining dredge. The round trip train excursion is 2 1/2 hours long, which includes a 30 minute stop in Sumpter.  Bring water and a sack lunch, or you can get lunch afterwards in nearby Sumpter or at Austin Junction. We’ve arranged for a group discount:  Adult fare is $26 per person, Senior/Military fare is $23 per person. Sign up for the Railroad Excursion on the Rally registration page. 

This year, the SVRR plans to operate one of their two historic steam locomotives. However, sometimes there are unexpected mechanical issues with locomotives that are over 100 years old. Therefore, the SVRR may run a diesel locomotive depending on equipment availability, volunteers, and weather (fire) conditions.

Have fun LEARNING & APPLYING off pavement riding fundamentals. Our 1-day adventure rider training course is conducted in a specially designed off pavement riding area and includes instruction, discussion and practice activities. You will learn 12 fundamental skills needed for adventure riding. Our focus is riding on low traction surfaces with an emphasis on body positioning and rider-active control techniques. Our goal is to equip you to ride your adventure bike confidently and competently to places where you may have previously turned around. No prior off pavement riding experience is needed but you must be a licensed motorcycle rider with experience riding on the street.
