Friday, June 21st
PAVED — UKIAH/SUMPTER LOOP — 203 miles — Beautiful mountain ride along US-395, then southeast wilderness ride along NF-52, with stops along the John Day River watershed. Lunch stop in Sumpter. LIMITED TO 20 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Thursday. Departs from Main Parking Lot at 9:00am Friday. Arrive to pre-ride briefing at 8:45am with full fuel, snacks, and water.
PAVED — JOURNEY THROUGH TIME — 88 miles — Beautiful ride through Picture Canyon to Blue Basin. Hike self-guided 0.75-mile Island in Time Trail through blue and tan fossil-bearing rock layers deposited 31-28 million years ago. Next, we'll backtrack to the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center. We will spend about an hour here having our lunch, and touring the free Natural History Museum. Fossils, rocks, maps lots of geeky science stuff for all. After lunch, it's back on the bikes, we'll stop at the Mescall Overlook, where you'll view the prehistoric record written in the rocks. LIMITED TO 20 RIDERS. PAVED — DAYVILLE PIE RIDE — 118 miles — Easy and scenic loop into the Blue Mountains and through the fading timber town of Seneca. Be glad it's not winter; it was -54° here in 1933, the coldest temperature ever recorded in Oregon. Turning north we'll leave US-395 for CR-63. Then it's back to forest roads, (including 2.6 miles of easy gravel). We'll continue to the best pie in eastern Oregon at the Dayville Cafe, after which, it's a straight shot back to the fairgrounds. GS — MODERATE — SUSANVILLE-OLIVE LAKE LOOP — 117 miles — Exciting ride deep into Oregon gold country. As many as 1,000 miners would come to Susanville on Saturday nights. Olive Lake feeds the historic Fremont Powerhouse; if you’re lucky the caretaker may give you a tour. LIMITED TO 10 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Thursday. GS — MODERATE — FALL MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT LOOP — 48 miles — Easy paved/unpaved ride along forest roads to remote fire lookout. LIMITED TO 15 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Thursday. GS — MODERATE — DRY SODA LOOKOUT LOOP — 53 miles — Enjoy a quick and easy ride to the closest of the John Day Lookout towers. Built in 1941,Dry Soda Lookout is a vintage USFS 60-foot tower that is still staffed for fire detection each year. It nearly met its demise in the 2015 Canyon Creek Fire. LIMITED TO 15 RIDERS. Saturday, June 22nd
PAVED — FIELDS CREEK SENECA LOOP — 92 miles — An easy, casual route along Fields and Murderer's Creek, where, so the story goes, eight prospectors were murdered in the 1860s. After a short unpaved section (2.6 miles), the route continues to Seneca before dropping back into the John Day Valley. LIMITED TO 10 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Friday. PAVED — MIDDLE FORK LOOP —120 miles — The Middle Fork of the John Day River is the highlight of this ride. Bates State Park is near the beginning of the river section, was, until the mid1970s, the site of a thriving lumber mill and an adjacent company town. Be careful along the 42-mile river section— wildlife have been known to leap from the river brush in the middle of the day. Returning via US-395, stop and enjoy ice cream or a sandwich at Long Creek Mercantile. LIMITED TO 10 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Friday. Departs from Main Parking Lot at 10am Saturday. PAVED — BEST BURGER RIDE — 175 miles — Ride leader Steven Polansky insists he's found the best burger in the west. Join him for an epic motorcycle ride that includes everything you could want — scenic views, thrilling roads, as well as amazing burgers and other fine selections. The ride will head to Baker City via OR-7. As they say ... "Ride to eat, eat to ride!" But there’s more. The return trip over Dooley Mountain will entertain you with grand vistas and plenty of twisties. LIMITED TO 10 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Friday. GS — ADVANCED — DOOLEY RIDGE — 211 miles — Aggressive paved/unpaved ride over Dooley Ridge, followed by the Dooley Mountain Highway, one of Oregon’s best motorcycle roads. A favorite of birders and motorcyclists alike, the area is recovering from a lightning strike wildfire, which burned 104,000 acres, the largest in Baker County history. LIMITED TO 15 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Friday. Departs from Main Parking Lot at 8am Saturday. Arrive to pre-ride briefing at 7:45am with full fuel, lunch (Subway is 0.3 miles south on Canyon Blvd.), snacks, & water.
GS — MODERATE —ALDRICH LOOKOUT LOOP — 115 miles — Heading south, you'll enjoy the climb along US-395 from Soda Gulch into the Malheur National Forest. At the 50-mile mark, it's into the dirt for 32 miles as you follow the South Fork of the John Day, before climbing Jackass Creek Road to the lookout atop 6,998-foot Aldrich Mountain. After enjoying the view, it's more dirt for 13 miles until you find US-26 for the final run back to the fairgrounds. LIMITED TO 10 RIDERS. Sign up at the Info Booth by 5pm Friday. GS EASY — MAGONE LAKE LOOP — 53 miles — Paved ride to Magone Lake one of the few natural lakes in this part of Oregon. The return ride continues along a level 9-mile unpaved forest road to US-395.
